Login Failing Due to reCAPTCHA? Try Ctrl + Shift + R
If a reCAPTCHA check (especially reCAPTCHA v3) fails to load or you see a "verification failed" or low-score message when trying to log in, the problem is often a stale or corrupted verification script cached in your browser.
The fastest first step is to press Ctrl + Shift + R (on Mac: Command + Shift + R).
This performs a hard reload, which forces the browser to bypass its local cache and re-download every file from the server — including the JavaScript that reCAPTCHA depends on. A normal refresh (F5 or Ctrl + R) may still reuse the broken cached file, while a hard reload clears that out.
Why does reCAPTCHA sometimes stop working?
reCAPTCHA v3 doesn't show a checkbox. Instead, it runs in the background and returns a trust score between 0 and 1. If your score falls below the website's threshold, your login is blocked. Incomplete script loading, cached outdated code, or browser extensions interfering with Google's scripts can all cause this failure.
If Ctrl + Shift + R doesn't fix it, try these steps in order:
- Test in an incognito window — Press
Ctrl + Shift + N(Chrome/Edge) and try logging in there. Incognito disables extensions by default. If it works, an extension (ad blocker, privacy tool, etc.) is blocking the reCAPTCHA script. - Disable all extensions temporarily — Go to
chrome://extensions, turn everything off, and retry. Then re-enable them one by one to find the culprit. - Clear cookies and site data for that site — In your browser settings, find "Cookies and site data," search for the website's domain, delete it, and log in again.
- Check your network — If you're on a VPN or proxy, turn it off and retry. Shared IP addresses can be flagged as high-risk by reCAPTCHA, lowering your v3 score.
- Update your browser — Older browser versions may lack APIs that the reCAPTCHA script requires.
